Inspired by his late Grandfather Ralph, an established artist, Paul Deacon has been painting and drawing since a schoolboy.

Paul is self taught, has a passion for coastal, landscape and marine subjects and primarily works in oils and watercolours.

Following discovery of the remains of a medieval ship on the banks of the River Usk in Newport, Paul was commissioned to create an impression of what the ship might have looked like in its prime. 

His version of the ship was exhibited as part of ‘The Newport Medieval Ship through Artists’ Eyes’ exhibition at Newport Museum and Gallery, September 2017 – January 2018.

For over 10 years, Paul ran his own gallery and picture framers (Deacon Fine Art) in the heart of Newport city centre, receiving the Fine Art Trade Guild award for Best New Business.

Retired from business, Paul is now dedicated to painting full time.
